In this March 26, 2019, photo, volunteers put together food trays at Three Square, a food bank in Las Vegas. The reduction of food waste has taken hold in a city known for excess: Las Vegas. Sin City’s world-famous casinos in recent years have developed and expanded innovative practices to cut back on the leftover and uneaten food they send to the landfill by thousands of tons a year. In 2016, MGM began donating fully cooked but never-served meals from conventions and other large events to Three Square, southern Nevada’s only food bank.
