Cardinal Mooney High School recently hosted its second annual men’s and women’s alumni basketball game benefit in honor and memory of alumnus Dave Petty. Petty was a coach and teacher at the school before his death in 2010. The event raised more than $2,500 for the Adopt-A-Student program, which provides tuition assistance to deserving students. William Farragher recently spoke about his years in the steel industry at a meeting of the Austintown Friends of the Library. He is credited with designing the Youngstown Sheet and Tube logo. The January membership meeting of GFWC Warren City Federation recently took place at the Sunrise Inn Banquet Center in Warren. Fifth Wheel was the hostess club, and Someplace Safe was chosen for the community outreach. Trumbull County Probate Court Judge James Fredericka presented a slide show on the duties of his office and focused on the Guardian Angels of Trumbull County. The next meeting will take place at Ciminero’s Banquet Center in Niles. Jim Valesky from the Warren Heritage Center will be the featured speaker. Ben Baldner, principal of Austintown Middle School, recently visited the Austintown Rotary Club to discuss a new project. AMS food pantry is located in a room near the cafeteria and allows students to grab a few items to help out their families as they leave school for the day or weekend. Baldner gave credit to counselor John Hudson and STEM teacher Doug Eisenbraun for getting the project started. Rotarians joined in the effort with a check for $250 to help food purchases from Second Harvest food bank as well as personal products the students need.
