The Mahoning County Junior Fair Board, above, attended the 93rd annual Ohio Fair Managers Convention and Trade Show at the Columbus Convention Center on Jan. 6. The featured speaker was Ashlee Lundvall, who after being paralyzed in a ranching accident at 16, was crowned Ms. Wheelchair USA in 2013. Morgan McCutcheon of the Hartford Independent Fair was crowned 2018 Ohio Fairs Queen by Crista Wortkoetter, the 2017 Ohio Fairs Queen. She told attendees not to let setbacks define life, you can make your dreams come true. The 2017-18 Mahoning County 4-H Queen Tiffany Voland was a competitor. Members and advisers attended a variety of workshops and toured vendors and entertainment acts. Special guests included Kim Moff, junior fair manager, and senior fair board members Ward Campbell and his wife, Pam, an adviser to the junior fair board, and Bob Jarvis and his wife, Rita.

Austintown American Legion Post 301 Women’s Auxiliary recently assembled and delivered Christmas stockings filled with goodies and holiday cheer to veterans in five local nursing homes. Salem Historical Society’s gift shop, 239 S. Lundy, is offering some new items. The annual community calendar features “Dining in Salem” and lists restaurants of the past. They cost $10 each plus $2 for shipping, if needed. A newly released book, “Miss Me But Let Me Go,” by Michelle Huffman, a true story about a young man who helps his mother heal, from the other side, also is available.
