Cardinal Mooney High School received a $5,000 grant from the Walter and Caroline Watson Foundation through the PNC Charitable Trust for upgrades to its auditorium. The funding will assist in upgrading technology, electrical infrastructure, aesthetic renovations and physical enhancements to the space in an effort to keep up with the expansion of the school’s theater department, speech and debate team and technology in classroom programming. Boardman Lanes sponsored a fundraiser for Angels for Animals with the drawing taking place Dec. 30. Jim DeMain of Boardman was the winner. Participating in the drawing, above from left, are Diane Less, Kenley Smith and Rob Theis, owner of Boardman Lanes. Proceeds will go toward the building of a new Angel Wing. It will offer affordable emergency care and regular veterinarian care around the clock. It will allow Angels for Animals to increase the number of spay/neuter surgeries helping to control animal over-population in the Youngstown area and outlying communities. Angels is a nonprofit organization, and is continuing to raise funds for this project. They get no funding from any state, local or federal sources. For information, call 330-549-1111.

Linda Crish, president-elect of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs Ohio, recently installed the 2018 officers for the Boardman Poland Junior Women’s League at its annual Christmas social at the Blue Wolf Tavern. Accepting league offices were Debbie Weaver, president; Sperry Rongone, first vice president and membership chairwoman; Yvonne Ford, second vice president and program yearbook; Cheryl Smaldino, president-elect; Derrie Wilkes, treasurer; Tina Bellino, assistant treasurer; Debbie Chop, publicity; and Margaret Cherol, corresponding secretary. The league’s mission is to provide a creative outlet for women interested in providing community service in areas of arts, conservation, education, home life and international and public affairs. Any woman over age 18 who resides in Mahoning, Trumbull, or Columbiana counties and would like information should call Sperry Rongone, membership chairwoman, at 330-770-3880.
