Two members of the Canfield High School band were selected recently from among several hundred auditions and applications to perform with the Ohio Band Director’s Conference Honor Band at the University of Akron. The band was led by guest conductor Dustin Seifert of Eastern New Mexico University and also featured OBDC composer-in-residence Richard Saucedo. The GFWC Ohio Boardman-Poland Junior Women’s League will host “Tea & Polite Society” at 1 p.m. March 10 at Poland Presbyterian Church, 2 Poland Manor Drive. Cost is $20 per person. Proceeds will go to local schools and women’s charities. Menu includes tea sandwiches, desserts and herbal teas. The event will feature a basket raffle and a selection of tea cups. Jessica Trickett from the Mahoning Valley Historical Society will be the speaker. Tickets are limited and available from any league member. Kim Welch, of Leavittsburg, second-place winner of the Valentine love story ending contest that was sponsored by The Vindicator won two tickets to “Vicki Lawrence and Mama: A Two Woman Show.” Welch chose her sister, Karen Mamula, to accompany her last week. While the sisters were in the lobby, they were observing posters of upcoming performances and inquired about Lawrence’s poster. Mamula explained to the attendant how their tickets were obtained and he told them he could “do better than a poster” and proceeded to lead the two women backstage to meet Lawrence.
