Although HomeGoods has rescinded a proposal to build a distribution center on residential land in Lordstown, local officials say they are in talks with the company to build somewhere else in the Mahoning Valley. Jury selection in the Ralph Infante public-corruption trial will resume this morning in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court after individual questioning of potential jurors continued into late afternoon Monday. For the second time, Mahoning County Engineer’s office has narrowly averted a strike by its employees who belong to Teamsters Local 377. This time, it’s because U.S. Rep. Brookfield sixth-graders in Linda Bain’s art class created clay masks of animals or humans inspired by other cultures. They added textures and raised features, such as eyes, nose and mouth. They also painted the masks and added glaze before they were fired in a kiln. Finished masks were displayed in the classroom. Above, Mrs. Bain instructs students on how to build up the clay to add dramatic features. Below are Tara Thompson, left, and Charles Nicholson, who are adding texture to their masks.

The students in Gary Martin’s health classes at West Branch High School were given the chance recently to learn the proper techniques of performing first aid as well as learning how to administer cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. The HeartSaver first aid/CPR course provided the students the opportunity to become certified in CPR through the American Heart Association. Additionally, students learned what signs to look for in case of an emergency. Above, Joe Sprague, freshman, practices CPR during health class.
