David Coxson and Kim Coxson after recieving his Eagle .Scout award at a court of honor at Cornerhouse Christian Church in Hubbard where his father is pastor. Isaac's Eagle service project was collecting more than 20 musical instruments for the HubbardHS band of which he is a member.

Struthers Rotary Club recently welcomed Rachell Joy, above, trustee of Top Hat Productions, as guest speaker for its March meeting. Joy is a performer, resident designer and makeup artist for Top Hat Productions. Joy was awarded the 2009 Positive Image Award by the North Eastern Ohio Education Association, and received the “Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for Volunteer Service” issued by former President Barack Obama in 2015. Top Hat is operated by volunteers to help children with special needs and entertainment interest gain experience in all aspects of staging a production. The organization is seeking both volunteers and performers to assist its shows and programs. For information, visit www.tophatproductions.org.

The Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave., Youngstown, will host its annual Spring Plant Sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 11 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 12. A variety of annuals, hanging baskets, perennials, herbs, dahlias, woody shrubs and trees, summer bulbs, tropical, fruits and non-GMO vegetable plants will be available. Canfield High School’s Aurora Fares recently received a Multi-Year Award for her participation in State Science Day. Her awards include five Superior ratings at the Regional Lake-to-River Science Fair and three Superior ratings and one Excellent rating at the State Science Day. Fares will participate in the Ohio Academy of Science’s 70th annual State Science Day on May 12 at Ohio State University. Science Day is one of the largest science and engineering fairs in the country, and approximately 1,200 students in fifth- through 12th-grade will compete for more than $700,000 in sponsored awards and scholarships.

The GFWC Ohio Warren Junior Women’s League recently recognized 10 Trumbull County teenagers for their time, service and dedication to volunteer work during the league’s 48th annual WJWL Teen Volunteer Awards Banquet. More than 30 submissions were received from area students and judged by Esther Gartland, Ginny Pasha and Diane Szuch. The top 10 each received a $25 check and gift bag from Eastwood Mall. The top teen volunteer award and a $500 prize went to Amanda Grexa of Badger High School, and $300 and second-place winner was Gianna Jones of Warren G. Harding High School. Third-place and a $200 award was won by Celested Harris of Harding. Those attending the banquet above were, seated from left, Haley Ketchum, Niles McKinley; Jones; Grexa; Harris; and Olivia Bevan, Hubbard.
