Columbiana Rotary Club recently delivered coats to Joshua Dixon Elementary School as part of the Operation Warm project. Mitch McGuckin, a Realtor with Century 21 Lakeside Realty, joined in the project by supplying matching hats and gloves to be paired with each coat. The Department of Student Life and Campus Programs at the University of Akron has congratulated the 2017 Homecoming King and Queen, Dan Kosich and Alexia Santiago, above. Santiago is a senior from Boardman who is majoring in psychology. She belongs to many student organizations and has served as a New Roo Weekend leader for three years and an orientation leader for two years. She hopes to be a representative of people who are “underrepresented.” Kosich is a senior majoring in mechanical engineering and is involved with Phi Delta Theta and the Department of Residence Life and Housing.

Students in Adrienne Lesnett’s freshman honors English classes raised $830.32 to help animals affected by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma. The students voted to raise funds for the Humane Society of America Disaster Relief Fund. Their efforts included selling popcorn and Gatorade at all girls tennis matches. Chipotle in Alliance also helped by donating a percentage of all meals purchased. Pictured above, West Branch Middle School eighth-grade students visited MCCTC for a special program, the Cutting Edge Manufacturing Event. The event takes place annually on National Manufacturing Day and is designed to expose middle-school students to the manufacturing industry, highlight the importance of manufacturing and the jobs available. Students heard from various speakers and took part in hands-on projects with local manufacturers. Approximately a half-dozen local companies participated in the event, representing careers in hydraulics/pneumatics, machining, welding and engineering.
