SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR Richard Gage, left, an English teacher at Struthers High School, recently won the 2017 Barnes & Noble “My Favorite Teacher” contest. He was nominated through an essay written by Gabriella McLaughlin, a student at the high school. Gage and McLaughlin were honored April 8 at a ceremony at Barnes & Noble, Boardman. The contest took place Jan. 4 through March 1, and allowed middle and high school students to nominate their favorite teachers through essays, poems, or thank-you letters that explained why they admired or appreciated them. Seven teachers were nominated from Struthers City Schools, and each received a gift card to Barnes & Noble. Barnes & Noble, Boardman, won the District Award, and Gage and McLaughlin will continue to the regional competition with them. Gage will have the opportunity to become the Barnes & Noble National Teacher of the Year.
