SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR Five members of Girl Scout Troop 80344, who attend McDonald High School, recently received the Gold Level President’s Volunteer Service Award for community service. Student and adult members of the troop contributed 2,284 hours of community service last year. Earning the award were Rachel Ward, Rachel Mathews, Abriella Gillespie, Abigail Sampson and Megan Ward. Rachel and Megan Ward each contributed more than 250 hours of community service. An award ceremony took place at the high school March 20 with Glenn Holmes, state representative; Thomas Domitrovich, village administrator of McDonald; Darlene Smiley-Masetta, pastor of Woodland Park United Methodist Church; and Gary Carkido, principal of McDonald High School. Troop leaders Candice Ward and Lori Gillespie presented the awards, which included the Gold Level Service Pin, a letter signed by former President Barack Obama, and a service recognition certificate. The students were recognized by the Ohio House of Representatives, Ohio Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives with certificates given by Holmes, Carkido on behalf of state Sen. O’Brien, and Domitrovitch on behalf of U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan.
