SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR Beaver Creek Candle Company of Lisbon recently donated $1,000 to Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley. The funds came from the company’s sale of MANCAN candles, which have manly scents such as bacon, fresh car smell, dirt and cut grass. MANCAN was started in 2010 by then 10-year-old Hart Main, who donated soup to local soup kitchens, then used the empty cans to make the candles with his mother in their kitchen under the slogan “One Can, One Meal.” As the candles became more popular, Main partnered with Beaver Creek Candle Company for the production of the candles, and most are made by employees who are developmentally disabled. MANCAN has donated more than 90,000 meals to 25 soup kitchens, including the Rescue Mission. In front, from left, are Sheila, Sylvia and Karen. In back are Jerri Lynn, instructor; Ron; Michael; Frank; Gail; Darlene; and Susan Hertel, business manager of Beaver Creek Candle Company.
