SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR Austintown Rotary hosted Richard Scarsella on Feb. 20 and Stephanie Fabian on Feb. 27 as guest speakers during weekly meetings. Scarsella, a public speaker and retired history teacher, discussed William Holmes McGuffey, a local historian and author who wrote the McGuffey Readers. More than 122 million copies were sold between 1836 and 1960, making the textbooks comparable with the Bible and Webster’s Dictionary in sales. Fabian shared information about the Rotary Youth Leadership Award convention that took place Feb. 24 through 26 at Avalon Inn. She attended the convention with two Austintown Fitch juniors, Bailee Kingsley and Lexi Cintron. Ed Kalahar, rotary president, presented Scarsella, right, and Fabian, above, with books that will be placed in the Austintown Elementary School library in their names.
