SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley, Boardman, recently donated $2,500 to Sister Jerome’s Mission College, a program of Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown, to improve the nutrition of college students in the mission program. Present for the donation at Cultivate, Lake to River Food Cooperative Cafe in Youngstown, were Melissa Miller, of Lake to River; Crystal Jones, executive director of grants and contracts for Mercy Health Foundation; and Maraline Kubik, director of Sister Jerome’s Mission. The mission helps first-generation college students from low-income families finish their degrees with financial assistance and mentoring. The grant will provide each student with $25 each month to purchase fresh fruit, vegetables, dairy products and meat from Lake to River, and grocery vouchers instead of fast-food gift cards the students have been receiving. The mission is funded entirely from donations, and all the mentors are volunteers. For information or to donate, call 330-746-6622.
