SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR Above, in front, is Canfield Police Department K-9 officer Chad Debarr with Tron, and standing are Regina Jenkins, left, Jorine Stone, Luanna Jacobs, Bonnie Lambert who is presenting a plaque to the officer, and Amy Pendleton. Police dogs are trained to assist police and law-enforcement personnel in finding suspects through smell, protecting its handler, finding hidden objects, knowing how to respond when under fire and detecting explosives and narcotics. Nine-year-old Tron will retire in March 2017 due to physical problems. He served seven years. A new dog will be purchased in April and training costs approximately $14,000. The Newcomers donated to the fund and Debarr thanked the club for its support. To contribute to the Canfield Police Canine Fund, call the department at 330-533-4903. Newcomers is a social club to help those who are new to the community to make new friends. They participate in community activities and raise funds to help non-profit organizations.
