Home Savings Charitable Foundation recently donated a check for $2,500 to Mahoning Valley Sojourn to the Past. The educational program takes students on a 10-day trip through the states of Georgia, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee to learn about the 1960s Civil Rights Movement. Austintown Rotary hosted Darren Crivelli, a zoning inspector for Austintown, as guest speaker for a June 27 club meeting. Crivelli discussed new businesses, former school properties, neglected properties and future housing projects in the community. Above left is Mal Culp, left, outgoing club president with Crivelli. Songmeng Chea from Cambodia was welcomed as a guest of Rotarian Tom Welsh. They met in Phnom Penh in the late 1990s and maintained their friendship. Several Keystone Blind Association staff members and nine blind and visually impaired Keystone Kids from Hermitage, Pa., traveled to Disney World in Orlando for Disney’s Youth Education Series. In 2005, Keystone Kids were the first group of visually impaired students to take part in this Disney program. The students spent five days having fun with rides and team building exercises, and also learning about energy and waves, special effects and environmental conservation. They also went swimming with dolphins at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. KBA promotes personal growth and independence for blind and severely visually impaired children through a variety of fun and educational experiences that help develop orientation, mobility, social and organizational skills.

Talmer Bank and Trust recently donated $10,000 to Beatitude House, which will benefit Beatitude’s transitional housing program for disadvantaged women and children. Beatitude provides educational opportunities and helps to foster healthy families by providing safe places to live. Talmer’s donation will be used for renovations and upgrades to the House of Blessing sites in Youngstown and Warren and also will offer financial literacy programs at the housing sites.
