Ursuline High School recently received a check of $10,000 from the Home Savings Charitable Foundation for the high school science wing renovation project. Receiving the check, from left, is the Rev. Richard Murphy, president of the high school; Matt Sammartino, principal of the high school; and presenting the check is Lou Joseph, vice president of real estate and facilities at Home Savings. The science wing was constructed in 1955. The renovation, which began last summer, will include state of the art technology to bring the workspace into the 21st century. Home Savings Charitable Foundation recently donated $5,000 to Boardman Community Baseball to support a patio pavilion project at BCB’s Field of Dreams. The roof of a 22-year-old administration building also will be re-shingled. The project will provide a covered seating and standing area adjacent to the concession stand to protect spectators from the elements while watching games. The summer theme for Girard Historical Society’s open houses is Sports through the Ages. Sally Curl, left, and Carley O’Neill display a boxer’s robe and baseball bat which are part of the summer display at the Barnhisel House, 1011 N. State St., Girard. Hall of Famers from Girard are included in the display that dates from 1913. Fred Faiver, Tony Maiorana, Pat Meyer, Mel and Bill Triplett are a few of the athletes recognized. A dedication ceremony for an Ohio historical marker honoring Ernie Hall is open to the public at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ernie Hall Aviation Museum, 4033 N. Rover Road, Warren. Markers identify, commemorate and honor important people, places and events that have contributed to the state’s history. Ernest C. Hall, a pioneer of early flight, was born near Warren in 1890, was a friend of the Wright Brothers and built his first powered airplane in 1909. He was a civilian flight instructor and trained more than 500 military pilots for combat during World War I. He died in 1972. His monoplanes have been displayed at the National Air and Space Museum — Smithsonian in Washington D.C. and at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton. The Ernie Hall Aviation Museum will be open free of charge after the dedication until 12:30 p.m. For information visit erniehallaviationmuseum.org.

Warren Junior Women’s League Club members Esther Gartland, left, and Pam Vines were recently installed at the GFWC Ohio Federation of Women’s Clubs 118th annual convention. Gartland was installed as 2016-2018 GFWC OFWC Assistant Director of Junior Clubs and Pam Vines was installed as GFWC OFWC Northeast District Junior Director. Vines also was selected to represent GFWC Ohio Federation of Women’s Clubs as the 2016 LEADS Candidate. Her name was added to the Pioneers Blue Book of Distinguished Women and she received the 2016 Feather in her Cap award from GFWC OFWC President Linda Ross and Linda Crish, second vice president. Vines was selected for being organized, energetic, a hard worker and dedicated to the federation.

Niles Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. July 18 in the Westenfield Room at Ward-Thomas Museum, 503 Brown St., Niles. Thomas Holloway, chief engineer at Mahoning Valley Sanitary District will discuss the past and present treatment of water and the plant facilities. Learning the history behind the clean, safe water development for the city and area at Meander Reservoir is necessary to understanding the cost and improvements being made today. More than five-million trees, mostly conifers, were planted at Meander in a five-year reforestation program to conserve its waters and prevent soil erosion.
