SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR | Girard Historical Society recently elected officers for 2016 including, from left, treasurer Patty Finelli Miller, secretary Mary Ann Creatore, vice president Collette Chuey and president Roberta Lawrentz. The officers are displaying a coverlet that features 11 city landmarks that is for sale for $40. Membership fees are also being collected. Proceeds from both will be used to for the preservation of the society’s headquarters, the Barnhisel Home. The society is seeking donations of sports memorabilia to be displayed at summer open houses. For information visit www.girardhistoricalsociety.org.

SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR | The Youngstown Area Grocers Association will host its 11th annual beer and wine tasting from 6 to 9 p.m. March 11 at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. Proceeds will benefit the family and children’s program of the Ursuline Sisters HIV/AIDS Ministry in Youngstown as well as the Prince of Peace Center in Farrell, Pa. Tickets are $50 per person or $400 for a table of eight. There will be over 100 wines and 50 microbrews for guests to sample, as well as gourmet food and live entertainment during the event. There will also be a silent and a basket auction as well as a 50-50 raffle. To purchase tickets, call ministry co-director Brigid Kennedy at 330-792-7636 or email to bkennedy@ursulinesistersaids.org. SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR | Angels for Animals will host its 11th annual reverse raffle dinner at 6 p.m. March 5 in Andrews Hall at the shelter, 4750 W. South Range Road, Canfield. Dr. Mark McMurray will prepare a gourmet meal, and there will be basket raffles, 50-50, silent auctions, and a drawing for a grand prize worth $2,000. Cost is $75 per person or $25 for dinner only, and all proceeds will benefit Angels for Animals. SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR | Berlin Ellsworth Ruritan Club is sponsoring three Western Reserve High School sophomores to attend Leadership Mahoning Valley, a youth program for Mahoning and Trumbull county high school sophomores and juniors who have demonstrated leadership potential within their schools and communities. Each Wednesday for four months, LMV students learn about health care, social services, business opportunities and other challenges that local governments face while also practicing constructive leadership, responsible community participation and the development of networking skills. The three sponsored students, Abigail Sudano, Dominic Velasquez and Alexis Hughes, recently attended the Ruritan’s January meeting to thank members for the opportunity to participate in LMV.
