SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR Brookfield Local School District plans early dismissal days schedules to be more beneficial for staff and students. The days have been split into two parts with the first part dedicated to intervention, tutoring and special interests. Students who are doing well in the classroom may sign up for special interest classes such as guitar lessons, local history, stress relievers, the role of sports in society, community service opportunities, team building activities and problem solving activities. The second part of the day is dedicated to college and career readiness. Juniors and seniors have the opportunity to hear from and speak with representatives from various secondary programs, including Youngstown State University and Pittsburgh Technical Institute. Sophomores explored the career paths on the Ohio Means Jobs website. Freshmen worked with junior and senior mentors on survival skills, goal setting, team building and social skills. Brookfield High School plans to continue adding activities and options for students. Students in Sharon D’Allessandro’s class spent an early dismissal day making care packages for residents at local nursing homes and assisted care facilities. Students, in front from left, are Abraham Abdelrasoul, Brad Fumerola and Dustin Moffett. In back are Morgan McNamara, Victoria Merchant, Hazel Stewart, Zavier Chambers, Lauren Miller, Aaris Williams and Ron Woods.
