SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR Salem Historical Society will continue its monthly history roundtables at the Dale Shaffer Research Library meeting room, 239 S. Lundy Ave., Sunday afternoons from 4 to 5:30 p.m. through October. Sunday’s topic is “Salem High School Girls’ Social Clubs,” presented by Elaine Enders Reiter, Class of 1963, and several of her friends. Former members of a social club in high school are encouraged to attend and share memories, stories, pictures or artifacts. A facilitator will record the information and it will be added to the archives of the historical society. SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR Alchemy Acres Animal Sanctuary will host its annual Gavin Ward Memorial Golf Tournament on Aug. 20 at Olde Dutch Mill Golf Course, 2745 Grandview Road, Lake Milton. Registration for the four person scramble will be $65 per person and includes a golf cart, beverages, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Teams that register and pay by Saturday will receive a dozen golf balls. Prizes will be given on each hole, with a two-year lease for a Chevy Cruze as the grand prize for a hole-in-one on the eighth hole. The Cruze is donated by Sweeney Chevrolet, who also will donate $5,000 to Alchemy Acres, if there is a winner. First place team will win $300; second place, $200; and third place, $100. The tournament is named for Gavin Ward, a volunteer of Alchemy Acres who died at age 12. Volunteers preparing for the event, in front from left, are Sal Salvino with Chanel, and Marina Berger; and in back are Andrew Grueber with Buckeye, Tricia Rogers, Trudy Nolder and Marie Hernandez. Proceeds from the event will benefit the sanctuary in Salem. For information call the sanctuary at 330-332-4897.
