SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR The Austintown Optimist Club honored winners of its Respect for Law poster contest April 12 at the Saxon Club. The theme of the contest was “Police are my Heroes,” and was open to all Austintown Intermediate School students. The event was sponsored by the club with the Austintown Police Department and the school. Of 40-plus entries, one winner was chosen from each of grades three through five. The top poster designers were: Third grade, Brenyn Wilson; fourth grade, Ella Holbrook; and fifth grade, Hannah Magress. Involved in the event were Michael Zocali, fourth-grade principal; AIS staff; Robert Gavalier, Austintown police chief; Jeff Toth, Austintown police officer; and committee members Pete Gabriel, chairman; Bill Lowery; Lynn Larson; and Joann Sulenski.
