SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR | United Veterans Council held its 75th annual banquet at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish center in Austintown. Among those honored was Fred Schrok as Veteran of the Year, Dr. Robert Marcus as Citizen of the Year, and Brandon Colangelo, Seth Welsh, and Scotty Crawford as Citizen Youth of the community. Schrok served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam as a medical corpsman and is also a lifetime member of the VFW of Ellsworth and serves as the coordinator for the Funeral Honor Guard. Welsh is an Eagle Scout who designed and constructed five military silhouettes and a flag pole in the courtyard by the main entrance of Fitch High School for his Eagle project. Crawford, a sixth grader from Canfield, helped raise funds for the renovation of the Canfield War Veterans Museum. Colangelo, also an Eagle Scout, designed and constructed a flag disposal pit at Wickliffe Circle Veterans Park in Austintown. Dr. Marcus, right, has worked to assist the VA Outpatient Clinic and also serves as the coordinator of the Homeless Outreach program.
