SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR: Junior Group of Goodwill volunteers Laurel Chevlen, left, and Kathy Gerberry display items to be auctioned off when the group conducts its annual antique and collectible auction Friday and Saturday at Stambaugh Auditorium. The gala on Friday will feature a jewelry sale, a live auction of new items, a basket auction, a silent auction, a vintage clothing sale and a basket raffle. Saturday’s event will feature the antique and collectible auction of items collected through Goodwill donations.

SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR: Dana Balash, with his daughter, Hannah, and wife, Kim, received the Distinguished Service Award from Holy Family School, Poland, during an all-school Mass said by the pastor, Monsignor William Connell, and Bishop George Murry. The Mass took place during Catholic Schools Week at the end of January. Principal Kathleen Stoops recognized Balash and his nine years of service. A reception took place for Balash and his family after the Mass. Also in attendance was Dr. Lois Cavucci, president of Lumen Christi Catholic Schools, of which Holy Family is a member.

Alchemy Acres Animal Sanctuary volunteers Steve Sacco with Duke and Brandie Burns with Buckeye promote the spaghetti dinner planned from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 8 at the Salem Italian American Banquet Hall, 250 Penn Ave., Salem. Tickets may be bought at the door or in advance at 330-332-4897. The cost is $7 per ticket and free for children under 5. The meal includes meatballs, salad or applesauce, bread, coffee, tea or lemonade and dessert. The event will feature a basket auction with a gas grill and wheel barrow that comes with five yards of mulch, among other items. Also planned are a 50-50 raffle and a carryout bake sale. Carryout dinners can be ordered by calling 330-337-8817. All proceeds benefit the animals at the sanctuary. SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR
