Highway Tabernacle member Darlene Williams and the Rev. Matt Miller, pastor, standing next to her, attended a recent meeting of the Austintown Rotary Club to thank Rotarians for their support of the Fifth Quarter outreach program conducted by the church. At right is Rotary President Mal Culp. After each home football game, nearly 500 youths arrive for food, sports, games and fellowship in a safe environment supervised by adults. On the agenda this year are dodgeball, basketball, volleyball, electronic games, music, pool and pinball. Miller said that 11 other sponsors have joined Austintown Rotary in supporting the program. Culp holds a book that will be donated to the Austintown Elementary School in honor of the visitors.

The committee for Women’s Equality Day 2015 announces plans for the annual celebration to take place at noon Aug. 26 at the Women’s Park, Mahoning Avenue NW, Warren. This year marks the 95th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote. The keynote presentation will feature “Rally the Votes: A Man’s Perspective,” a dialogue between Frederick Douglass, Ansel Bascom and James Mott, which took place in Seneca Falls, N.Y. Tony DeFore will provide music. The event is free and open to the public. Those who attend are asked to take lawn chairs. Refreshments will be served after the program at the Upton House, 380 Mahoning Ave. NW. Co-sponsors are the League of Women Voters of Trumbull County, the Upton Association, Warren Civic League, GFWC Ohio Warren Junior Women’s League and GFWC Warren City Federation of Women’s Clubs. The second Tippecanoe Golf Classic will take place Sept. 14 at Tippecanoe Country Club, 5870 Tippecanoe Road, Canfield, to benefit Hospice of the Valley. A donation of $125 per person for the scramble includes 18 holes of golf, lunch, dinner and prizes. Registration, driving range and lunch begin at 11 a.m. The shotgun start will be at noon. Cocktails will be at 5 p.m. followed by a buffet dinner. The dinner and festivities only will cost $40 per person. Sponsorships, hole sponsors and auction items are welcome. Honorary chairman for the event is Dr. Edward Novosel. Bob Ferraro, a member and past president of Tippecanoe Country Club, is the event chairman, and committee members are Liz McGarry, Leslie Coalmer, Nancy Sullivan, Louann Sutton-Kutlick, Paula Durkin and Andy Zabel. For a hole-in-one on No. 9 Pete Brittain of Columbiana Buick-Cadillac-Chevrolet will donate a Cadillac ATS, and for a hole-in-one on No. 5 Judy Rafoth, president, and Monica Rafoth, vice president of Adamas Jewelry and Gifts, will donate a $10,000 shopping spree at Adamas. Hospice of the Valley offers compassionate end-of-life care to those with terminal illnesses and offers support to their families.
