Ankle & Foot Care Centers has announced plans for its 16th Annual Golf Benefit, a four-person scramble set for Aug. 22 at the Pine Lakes Golf Club, 6233 W. Liberty St. in Hubbard. The tournament raises money for local diabetes education, resources and support through Ankle & Foot Care and the Diabetes Partnership of the Mahoning Valley. Play will begin with a shotgun start at noon, after the sign-in at 11 a.m. The $100 fee per golfer includes 18 holes of golf, lunch and dinner, beverages on the course, merchandise prizes and skill contests. Lunch will be served on the course, and dinner at the pavilion will follow golfing. The reservation deadline is Aug. 8. Sign up by calling Michael Vallas at Ankle & Foot Care at 330-629-8800. The annual Pink Ribbon Golf Classic will take place July 14 at Squaw Creek-Avalon Golf and Country Club, 761 Youngstown-Kingsville Road, Vienna. Preparing for the event, from left, are Judith DeSalvo, this year’s golf classic honoree; committee members, Patty Barber and Pam Planey; and Cheryl Miskell, committee chairwoman. The 18-hole four-person scramble will include lunch and a basket auction and raffle. Registration and a continental breakfast will begin at 8 a.m. with the shotgun start at 9. Asher, a 1-year-old goldendoodle, is ready to go to work as a therapy dog at Jackson-Milton Elementary School. The dog, owned by guidance counselor Christine Ginnis, will join the school staff next year but was introduced Tuesday morning to the enthusiastic student body who lined up to greet and pet him. The dog will be at the school three days per week, allowing students — and staff — to de-stress and decompress when needed. He’ll have his own bed in Ginnis’ office at the school.
