VFW Post 6488 and its Ladies Auxiliary are planning their annual Memorial Day Observance for 1 p.m. May 26 at the post, 2065 Coitsville-Hubbard Road, Youngstown. The keynote speaker will be Susan Skrzynski, executive director and service officer with Mahoning County Veterans Services Commission. Tribute will be paid to Judge Robert P. Milich, Youngstown Municipal Court judge and retired Air Force colonel. Special recognition will go to the widows of departed comrades. From left are Sam Gordon, Commander Ulyses Rucker, John Gore and Paul Fitzpatrick.

Holborn Herb Growers Guild will sell herbs and plants from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 17 in the pumpkin barn at Canfield Fairgrounds, 7265 Columbiana Canfield Road.  Herbal plants, perennials, fairy gardens and supplies and herbal cookbooks will be available. Proceeds will support the gardens in Boardman Park and at the Western Reserve Village Gardens at the fairgrounds. The guild also provides scholarships. Canfield Community Care Net will host a Designer Purse Bash and Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. May 31 at Zion Lutheran Church, 3300 Canfield Road, Cornersburg. Co-chairwomen for the event are Rebecca Holcomb, left, and Jennifer Holliday-Buchanan. Tickets are $25 for lunch and entry into the drawings for a handbag or tote. Some featured designers are Coach, Michael Kors and Kate Spade, which are donated by Macy’s, Magnolia’s on the Green, Dillard’s, Suzanne’s and Francesca’s, to name a few. Canfield Care Net has assisted Canfield families with major expenses from serious illnesses since 2001, and contributions have totaled more than $400,000.
