Taniya Phillips, right, holds her first-place essay with Delphine Baldwin-Casey, commander of the Youth Police Academy. Taniya, a third-grader at Martin Luther King Elementary School, wrote the essay, “Why I Never Want to Go to Jail,” after a visit by the Youngstown City Schools Afterschool Alliance and the Youth Police Academy last month to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center in Youngstown.
