2014 Youngstown area People to People delegates have completed their training and are ready to leave for a 20-day visit to England, France, Holland, Belgium, Austria, Germany and Switzerland. The group includes delegates from the Akron delegation. Youngstown area delegates are Joe Gaffney of Jackson-Milton High School; Brandon James, Emma Minamyer and Andrew Pasco of Salem; Zachary Quear and Simon and Solomon Weiss, West Branch; Julia Plunkett and Sarah Stevens, Badger; Talayzia James, Liberty; Ryan Scott, Champion; and Taylor Phillips, Austintown. The local delegation leader is Harold Wilson of Austintown.

Members of Aut Mori Grotto recently presented a check for $2,000 to Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley from the proceeds of the 2013 Monarch’s Golf Outing. The gift will be used to support Alex’s Playground at the Beeghly Campus in Boardman. Aut Mori Grotto has been helping children in the community for many years. During the New Castle Fireworks Festival on Saturday a new exhibit, “When Forges Roared,” will have its grand opening at Lawrence County Historical Society, 408 N. Jefferson St. Visitors will learn about the early stone iron furnaces, 19th century iron and steel mills and their modern counterparts. Also visit the Wall of Workers, which focuses on men and women mill workers. Admission is free.
