The Tri-Gold Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association presented a $1,500 scholarship to Becca Potkanowicz at its June meeting. Sarah Janutolo, left, education chairman, introduced Potkanowicz to the chapter. She is a graduate of Poland High School and a member of the National Honor Society. She plans to study broadcasting at Youngstown State University. Her father, Dan Potkanowicz, and grandparents, Dave and Cathy Poorman, all of Poland, attended.

Rodney and Kay Toth’s garden is open again this year for a day of public viewing. The hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 31 at 5637 W. Liberty St., Hubbard. The couple have several areas they have named, including a Grandchildren’s Garden and a Giant Tomato Forest.

Peter Kusky, right, engineer for Aqua Ohio and an Austintown resident and Fitch alumnus, was the guest speaker at the Aug. 3 meeting of the Rotary Club of Austintown. He discussed the importance of a dependable water supply in light of the crisis in Toledo. He also said tap water is tested more than bottled water and is safer. Rotary President Vince Colaluca, left, presented Kusky with a book in honor of his visit. It will be donated to the Austintown Elementary School Library.

A dozen people participated in the Ice Bucket Challenge, an online campaign to raise money for the ALS Association, on Wednesday at Inner Circle Pizza in Poland in honor of Inner Circle co-founder John Conti, who died of ALS in 2010.
