SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR As a tribute to Dale Shaffer’s love for Salem, the historical society buried a time capsule in his honor May 5 on the front lawn of the building named for him. The legacy capsule contains items recognizing Shaffer and representing contemporary times. It will be opened in 2063. Among those who attended the ceremony and reception were, from left, seated, Marilyn Johnson and Elaine Maki, Shaffer’s cousins; Kay Ray, his niece; and Shirley Gibbons. Standing are Gayle Johnson; Robert “Butch” Tucker; and Larry Gibbons, a cousin.
