Austinwood Nursing Facility in Austintown was the location of the 103rd birthday party for Pearl Walters, seated, who was born March 26, 1910. Wearing a tiara and purple studded dress, Walters was presented with a proclamation from Austintown elected officials. From left they are the Rev. Rick Stauffer and Lisa Oles, trustees; Laurie Wolfe, fiscal officer; and Jim Davis, trustee. She has six children, 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. She played the harmonica and piano. Her favorite color is pink, her favorite holiday is Easter and her favorite song is “When the Work Is All Done This Fall.”

Members of the Women’s Committee for Children’s Concerts are making final preparations for the April 11 event at Edward W. Powers Auditorium in Youngstown. From left are Carol Fithian, Lois Klein, Judy Graziano and Jan Szalma. Concerts will be at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. Students in first through eighth grades will travel through the solar system by sight and sound. The “Final Frontier” selections will include music from “Star Wars,” “ET” and Holst’s “The Planets.” Dr. Jose Francisco Salgado will present a narrative on the Hubble telescope images of the galaxy. Pavlansky will play tennis for the Midshipmen.
