SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR Kiwanis Division 21 participated in Kiwanis One Day on April 6. The day is dedicated for all Kiwanis clubs around the world to serve others and includes youth-sponsored clubs. The local project this year was helping at Second Harvest Food Bank warehouse, sorting canned and boxed food. Working hard, above, is Alan Harper of the Downtown Youngstown Kiwanis Club.

SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR The Pennsylvania State House of Representatives recently recognized New Castle’s Eintracht Maennerchor for its commitment to singing after a 30-minute concert by the group. The choir was founded in 1894 and is one of the nation’s oldest male singing groups. At a spring concert May 4 at the Eintracht Hall in New Castle, seven members will be awarded pins for 50 years of service with the group. In front, from left, are Danual Forsberg, director; Dr. James Bower; Donald Bowden; Nicholas Roman; William Both; Rep. Christopher Sainato, 9th Legislative District, Beaver and Lawrence counties; James Kaplan; Adam Pivovar; Ralph Minton; Mark Chirdon; and Lee Winter, choir president. Kourtney Hardwick, BP Florida operations manager, looks over a methane gas well site east of Bayfield, Colo. The well pad now has three gas wells that have been drilled and are producing natural gas. A new report from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has dramatically lowered estimates of how much of a potent greenhouse gas is being leaked by the natural-gas industry. The EPA now estimates that in 2011, the natural-gas industry released 10 percent less methane into the atmosphere than it did in 1990. The new figure comes after the EPA estimated last year that those methane emissions had risen about 15 percent since 1990.
