Members and advisers of Austintown Fitch Robotics Team visited Rotary Club of Austintown during a recent meeting. Eileen Yantes and Wesley Pringle demonstrated the 2013 robot, a Frisbee-tossing machine. It won awards at various competitions. The group had 27 participants this year. They have six weeks to build their entry. Worldwide there are 2,143 teams and the Austintown team shares and cooperates with teams from Warren, Girard and Canfield. The school provides a work space but the teams must raise funds to build the units. Peppy Purple Red Hats recently celebrated its 10th anniversary at Soni’s Restaurant, New Castle, Pa. Matching hats were made especially for the occasion, and the mascot was named Piper. The red team won games and received red pipe cleaner ring prizes from the door prize wreath. The purple losers team received mardi gras bead necklaces for their efforts. April events were discussed. Top, Liberty Trustee Jason Rubin attaches a banner to a lamppost on Shady Road bridge Wednesday. The banners are a finishing touch on a bridge refurbishment project that began three years ago.
