Mariah Roberts, right, a junior at Austintown Fitch High School and a member of Interact Club, was chosen to represent the Rotary Club of Austintown in the district Four-Way Speech Contest on March 31 in North Canton. Her topic was charter schools as an education alternative. Her main challenge when she competes next against 20 other entries from district Rotary clubs will be to apply the principles of Rotary to a modern topic as a way to determine a proper course of action. Hilda Delaney, surrounded by family and balloons, recently celebrated her 101st birthday. A resident at Shepherd of the Valley in Niles, Mrs. Delaney was born March 20, 1911, the oldest daughter in a family of seven children, and was primarily responsible for raising her six siblings. Only one sibling is still living. Later she worked for GE and a local pharmacy, holding down two jobs for most of her life to support her family. After retirement she became very involved with her grandchildren and was a volunteer for Mobile Meals. Delaney is a mother of three and has five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
