Leaders in the local medical community were honored and event attendees raised $193,000 for cardiac research at the American Heart Associations’s 2012 Heart Ball on Feb. 11. Local 2012 Heart Child, 6-year-old Alexa Kucher, and her family spoke about the importance of continued pediatric research. Each year, more than 30,000 babies are born with a heart defect. Congenital heart defects take the lives of more children of less than 1 year than any other single birth defect. Since 2003, the AHA has re-energized its commitment to raising research dollars for children’s heart health. Attendees included, left to right, 21 WFMJ-TV anchor Lauren Lindvig, Scott Landy and 2012 Heart Ball Chairwoman Rachel Barber.
