Vickie Maietta, second from left, holds a remembrance frame with the photos of Youngstown Police Department officers who died of cancer in the past year and a half and who were honored at the 21st annual charity golf benefit June 22 at Pine Lakes Golf Course in Hubbard. She and other committee members, from left, Sue Centorame, Fred LoSasso, Carlotta Kane, Laura Brown and Debra DeMatteo, arranged the benefit, dedicated to Capts. Kenny Centorame and Bob Kane and detective Sgts. Jerry Maietta and Joe DeMatteo. It raised more than $33,000, which will go to scholarships for children of YPD officers and civilians attending Youngstown State University. Other committee members were John Patton, Tony Tulipano, Tony Marzullo and Jerry Slattery. Contributing to the event’s success were platinum sponsors Dr. Denise Bobovnyik and Michael Bruno. Gold sponsors were Briarfield at the Ridge, Centorame, City Disposal Services, Denise DeBartolo-York, DeMatteo, Environmental Specialists, Kane, Vickie Maietta, Victor and Diane Perez, Harry Wollet, Youngstown Police Association, and Youngstown Police Ranking Officers, and silver sponsors were A.P. O’Horo, Dr. Vincent Paolone, Drs. James and Cynthia Kravec, the Rev. Edward Neroda, GLI Pool Products, HBK, Huntington Bank, Knoll Run Golf Course, Daryl and Luann Martin and family, Daryl and Vickie Mincey, Transit Service Inc., Jim Tressel, YSU Foundation and Ziegler Tire. The event attracted 144 golfers and had more than 25 prizes in the basket auction, a 50/50 drawing, IPAD raffle and dinner.
