Assistant director of TourismOhio, Pat Barker, recently spent a day in Columbiana touring the sites and surrounding countryside. Barker, second from right, stands in front of Shop On Main on North Main Street. Others, from left, are Rob Schwartz, tourism director; Crystal Boggs, executive secretary of the Columbiana Area Tourism Bureau; Rose Conrad, backup director; and, far right, Barb Farrand, tourism director. After Barker’s tour, which was facilitated by Jay Groner, a Columbiana area tourism director, high tea was observed at Barley Twist Antiques and Tea Room on North Main Street. The tourism board then conducted a meeting and took the opportunity to start the development of a long-term relationship with the TourismOhio office. Barker was able to provide information on tools the board could use for the development of Columbiana’s tourism.

Columbiana Business and Professional Women presented three $1,500 scholarships to area high school seniors during a recent picnic. From left are Jenny Pike, BPW president; Ashlee Coontz, a Leetonia High School graduate who will attend Brown Mackie College in North Canton and major in veterinary medicine; Ashley Orr, a Columbiana High School graduate who will attend Youngstown State University and major in math/chemical engineering; Lauren Makosky, a Columbiana High graduate who will attend YSU and major in pre-optometry/chemistry; and Lori Everly, past president.
