White House Fruit Farm in Canfield recently announced the winners of its fourth annual Apple Dessert Recipe Contest. Prizes included apples for a year and White House gift certificates. All entry fees were matched by the farm market and donated to Second Harvest Food Bank along with 60 bushels of apples. Entries were judged on appearance, taste and creative use of apples. Standing in the front row, from left, are Barb Morell of Canfield, first place winner for her Golden Apple and Brambles Cake with Irish Whiskey Custard Sauce; Lisa Marx of Hubbard, third place for her Caramel Apple Cheesecake; and Rita Esbenshade of Salem, second place for her Apple Cake. In the back row, at far left, Debbie Pifer, owner of White House, stands with contest judges Regina Reynolds and Glenn Stevens of WFMJ; Mike Iberis, director of Second Harvest; and Carol Rimedio-Righetti, Mahoning County Commissioner. All recipes received will appear in the next printing of the White House Apple Dessert Cookbook.
