The Struthers Rotary recently hosted its annual Four Way Speech Contest. Struthers High School participants Rachel Mass, center left, and Allison Guerrieri, center right, were required to present a 4-to-6 minute speech on how the Rotary’s 4-way test applies to everyday relationships with other people. The test consists of four questions: Is it the truth?; Is it fair to all concerned?; Will it build goodwill and better friendships?; and Will it be beneficial to all concerned? The students were accompanied by English teacher Jean Dundee, right. Rotarian Tom Baringer is at left.

At St. Patrick School in Hubbard, Mrs. Mellony Leonard’s second-grade class celebrated Dr. Seuss’s 108th birthday with a day of activities that tied into their lessons. The class was read a story and discussed the various rhymes in it and how some made sense and some were fun nonsense words. The class made their own hats to help celebrate the day. In the afternoon the class watched a Dr. Seuss movie and had popcorn and other snacks. The class comprises, in front, Sam Wirtz; middle row, from left to right, Jayden Johnston, Nate Wirtz, Bobby Lucarell, Matt Jacobs and Vincent LeBron, In the back are Isabella Canzonetta, Tristan Beil, Vincent DePizzo, Ian Smith, Danny Lucarell, Aidan Ealy and Mrs. Leonard.

The Austintown Optimist Club is planning its seventh annual wine taste from 7 to 10 p.m. April 27 at the Youngstown Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian Road, Austintown. A selection of wines and a variety of hot and cold hors d’oeuvres will be available. Club members Richard and Nancy Stoy display a poster advertising the event and listing ticket prices at $35 in advance or at the door. Proceeds will benefit Austintown Optimist Scholarships and Youth programs. For information call 330-793-2384.
