Fair exchange: The Auxiliary of St. Joseph Health Center, 667 Eastland SE, Warren, received a check for $1,800 following a recent sale of unwanted gold and silver jewelry. The items were taken to Goldman’s in Boardman and exchanged for cash. At the end of the sale Goldman’s presented a check for a percentage of the sales to the auxiliary. A place for love: The entire student body at Holy Family Elementary School, 2731 Center Road, Poland, took part in a recent “Service With a Smile” project. Students viewed the project as an act of love and kindness. Place mats they created for residents at Maplecrest Nursing Home in Struthers are displayed by first-graders, at left from back to front, Josie Shorokey, Alaina Scavina, Grace Raymer and Julia Ranno; and in back, Joe Macejko, David Vuksanovich, Joey Carosella, Joey Morrison and Mitch Tofil. First-graders not pictured are Jack Desmond and Christina Maruca. Teacher Maria Valley presented the place mats to Lisa Daprile, nursing home representative.

The luck of the draw: A highlight of the annual trash and treasure sale today at Austintown Community Church Preschool Childcare Center will be a raffle for a variety of gift-filled baskets. The sale will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 242 S. Canfield-Niles Road, Austintown, where the raffle drawings will begin at 12:45 p.m. Snacks, light luncheon items and beverages will be available for purchase, and proceeds from the event will go toward the purchase of developmentally appropriate classroom educational materials.

Auction for education: The Mill Creek Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association will host its annual basket auction April 3 at the Ursuline Center, 4280 Shields Road. The doors will open at 12:30 p.m. and drawings will begin at 3 p.m. Admission is $5 and includes refreshments of beverages and cookies, and a chance at the door prize. Door prizes follow: first, $150; second, $100; and third, $50. The auction will include lottery tickets, special raffles of items more than $25, 50-50 raffles and refreshments. More than 100 gifts will be auctioned off. The profits will go to the chapter’s education fund.
