Artists at the Senior Independence Senior Center of Mahoning County, 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, exhibited their works during an art show April 13 and 14 at the center. Brigitta Hanzely, above, displays her painting that earned the Best of Show award. Other winners were Mary Pinter, J. Harris, Ethel Nelson, Stella Ziegler, Judy Ours, Eugene Bennett, Sonny Lazar, Pete Balaban, Joe Alessi, A. Craig, P. Zelinski, B. Anderson, Dorothy Lesko, P. Richards, J. Rogers, and R. Bonis. “Spring Fling,” a collaborative event sponsored by Gateways Industries Day Habilitation Center and No Limits Day Habilitation Center, was a celebration of sunshine, new growth and friendship for people with disabilities. Shown with the pots they decorated, personalized and filled with flowers are a few of the guests at the outdoor event. Music was provided by Dan Kalavsky.

Proceeds from a benefit fashion show sponsored by Mahoning County Medical Society Alliance on Feb. 25 at Avion on the Water in Canfield were converted into seed money for the Garden of Hope at Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley. Paula Jabubek, outgoing president of the alliance, left, had the honor of presenting a check for $10,000 to JoAnn Stock, hospital development director, during a May 6 meeting of the alliance at Rosetta Stone Café, downtown Youngstown. With the check, the alliance has donated a total of $15,700 toward its pledge of $22,500 to the garden. For more information on the garden, call (330) 746-9122.

Mu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met April 19 at Donavito’s Italian Grille in Struthers to honor members who joined the sorority during the 1950s and 1960s. Four of the honorees attending the meeting are, seated from left, Mary B. Smith (1963) and Frances Ritz (1964), and, standing from left, Ruth Stevenson (1955) and Leslie Kiske (1964). They shared memories of past meetings, and each received a pot of tea roses. Honored in absentia were Helen Day (1959), Ruth Forsythe (1963), Margaret Remias (1964), Lillian Jacobs (1965), Betty Miller (1957) and Bessie Veck (1966).
