projects: The Junior Division of the Golden Rose Queen of Ireland Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians of Mahoning County worked on a service project in which they sent Christmas greetings to U.S. service personnel overseas. Front row, from left, are Secretary Rachel Kepley, Morgan Donnelly, Ashley Thompson, and Braiden Forsythe. In the second row are Treasurer Erin Loomis, Mary Kate Kelty, Vice president Breanne Donoghue, President Lauren Kepley, Karra Loomis, Heather Foust and Bre Thompson. Breanne is holding The Vindicator article that gave contact information for local U.S. military members away from home for the holidays. The Juniors sent boxes of treats packed with several kinds of candy, breakfast treats, tea bags, cookies, wipes, card games, Christmas cards and more to U.S. troops in Iraq. The Juniors continue to color and sell all-occasion note cards as their 2010 service project to benefit Relay for Life.

HEART PROGRAM: Students and faculty at St. Patrick School in Hubbard got a jump start on good health recently when they participated in the Jump Rope for Heart Program sponsored by the American Heart Association. Those taking part in the activity collected donations of $110 to be used by the AHA for programs that will benefit those in need. The school participates in the heart-warming program each year.

SOMETHING NEW: Vince Colaluca, superintendent of Austintown Schools, is flanked by Rotarian Chuck Baker, at left, and Brian Laraway, club president, following his induction into membership at the Jan. 4 meeting of the Rotary Club of Austintown. In addition to the installation ceremony, a program was presented by Deanna Hosey, owner of the Something Unique For You shop on Mahoning Avenue. Hosey was a high school exchange student to Japan through Austintown Rotary, sponsored by Dr. Murphy Morgan. She spoke of her efforts to make flowers affordable for everyone and of her recovery from a fire last year at her shop.
