REST STOP: Each fall and spring the Rotary Club of Canfield sponsors a clothing drive for those in need. Once the clothing is collected, it is sorted, packed and distributed to Appalachia, Indian reservations, Central America and India. The Poorest of the Poor project was started almost 20 years ago by Girard-Liberty Rotarian S.P. Wright and has been successful due to generous donations and the support of the community. Members of the Canfield community, Rotarians, and Canfield High School Interact are shown as they take a well-deserved break after a busy morning working on the clothing drive. Relaxing during the rest stop are Interact members, from left, Michael Brocker, Alexis Bates, Matt Schaefer, Layla Benaie, Chelsy Skalada, Dom Mirto, and McKenzie Hagy. Also participating but not pictured was Nick Delisio.

TRAVELERS: At the Oct. 5 meeting of the Rotary Club of Austintown, the speakers were from left, Jim and Dawn Tallman of Niles. Jim Tallman is a past district governor and now chairman of the district foundation grant program. The Tallmans traveled to India to see the results from funding of between $300,000 and $400,000 that District 6650 has sent there over the past six years. They visited a microfinance conference, which offers grants to women to start businesses and then sponsor others with profits. They took part in a Polio Day, in which 160 million children were immunized. They toured many Rotary water and solar cooking projects, a deaf school and Pardata Pardadi school for girls who can learn a trade to support themselves. At right is Brian Laraway, Austintown Rotary president, who presented a book in honor of the speakers to be donated to Woodside Elementary School Library.
