MIRIAM KIRKWOOD MASTERS

BOARDMAN – Private services will be held for Miriam Kirkwood Masters, 88, who passed away Saturday afternoon at her home.

She was born Oct. 7, 1922, in Yatesboro, Pa., a daughter of James and Miriam Lees Kirkwood.

She worked in the order department at Youngstown Sheet & Tube and the McKelvey Department Store.

Miriam was a member of the Boardman United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Dorcas Circle and the United Methodist Women. She chaired the trash and treasure sale of the church and was on the board of trustees. She was a Red Cross blood donor. She was a member of the Boardman Historical Society, where she was instrumental in moving St. James Church to Boardman Park.

Miriam was a member of the Adrem Club, the Collectors Society of Western Reserve, and was involved in her daughter’s Girl Scout troop and volunteered for Meals on Wheels.

She graduated from South High School.

Miriam was married for 65 years to Thomas C. Masters on Oct. 27, 1945, and he passed away Jan. 22, 2011.

She is survived by her daughter, Suzan Masters of Boardman; a son, Thomas W. (Jane) Masters of Boardman; a grandson, Thomas C. (Anna) Masters II of Omaha, Neb.; and leaves several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom and a brother, William Kirkwood.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Boardman United Methodist Church.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Szabo & Sons Funeral Home.
