Men in heels raise awareness about sexual violence

More than 60 men in bright red high-heeled shoes jogged – and stumbled – around the track at Youngstown State University’s Watson and Tressel Training Site during the second annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event. The humorous imagery of men wobbling in the 2- to 3-inch heels aimed to call attention to the serious issue of sexual violence.

“When we complain about parents not showing up and parental involvement, we have to consider that it’s really hard for them, transportationwise, when their kids’ schools are on the other side of the city,” Mohip said. “This is about getting the kids as close as possible to their schools.”


Event addresses lack of women, minorities in STEM

Sylvia Imler recounted a time she was in a restaurant with her husband several years ago. Imler is black; her husband is white. A waitress seemed to struggle while serving the couple, and when they were leaving, an elderly man blocked the doorway. When she passed him, she said, he spat at her.
