Poland Seminary High School’s choir performed in their annual dinner theatre fundraiser on May 2.
Choir director Shannon Nicholson organized the event, stating that it has been going on for more than a decade.
“The students are really excited,” Nicholson said. “They chose all the music.”
The theme of the night was “Dinner and All That Jazz,” with students choosing modern songs that they modified into jazz music.
The choir purchased dinner from Belleria, which included pasta, salad, drinks and dessert.
More than 50 people gathered in the high school’s cafeteria to enjoy dinner and listen to the students perform.
Along with dinner, community members were able to buy tickets for a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction.
All of the money raised during the night went to the choir students.
“It helps us pay for competitions and helps with travel,” Nicholson said. “After paying for other fundraising events.”
Seventeen choir members participated in the performance, which was composed of three parts.
After each portion of music community members were encouraged to wander about the room, participating in the raffles and mingling with each other.
Since Nicholson took over the choir program about two years ago, she said that the only major change she did was to move the venue of the event.
“It was always a great idea, and everyone really enjoyed it. But having it in the cafeteria allows people to eat off of something and emphasizes the dinner in dinner theatre,” she said.
Last year Nicholson said that the group raised about $2,000, and they hoped to do the same this year.
“Either way, it’s just a fun event that we enjoy putting on, and the community enjoys coming to every year,” she said.
