Golden Cardinal 3-on-3 hoops tournament set

Cardinal Mooney High School will host its second annual Golden Cardinal Challenge 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament on June 10 at Cardinal Mooney.
Each team will be guaranteed four games. The first two games are seeding games and will be followed by a double-elimination tournament. The event features girls’ and boys’ divisions. The cost is $15 per player with a maximum of four players per team in grades 3-8. The tournament will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
To register, go to www.cardinalmooney.com/events and pay directly online, or you may register at the door. You must register as a team and sign in as a team.
Participants will receive a T-shirt and trophies for all division winners. Walk-ins are accepted. The Concession stand will be open during the tournament.
A Gatorade Outdoor Basketball Hoop ($450 value) will be raffled off. Raffle tickets are two for $5 and will be available for purchase.

YSU to host ‘Night at the Races’ fundraiser

Youngstown State Athletics is hosting its third annual Night at the Races event in June to raise money for women’s teams and female student-athlete scholarships.
The fundraiser will be June 28 at A La Carte Catering on Lisbon Street in Canfield. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m., and the first of 10 races during the evening will begin at 7. The final race will begin at approximately 9 p.m.
The cost to sponsor a horse is $40, which gives a 10 percent chance to win $80. Money from the horse sponsorship goes directly to a designated sport program. The cost to attend the dinner and fun-filled event is $25, and it will cost $20 to bet $2 for all 10 races. Attendance is not required to sponsor horses.
There will also be a 50-50 raffle and a gift basket auction.

YSU to launch sports information program
YOUNGSTOWN
Youngstown State University will launch a new academic program in the fall semester for students who want to enter the wide world of sports writing and communication.
The new sports information and media track in the bachelor of arts in journalism program is designed for students interested in public and media relations, news, publicity and sports writing, said Adam Earnheardt, chairman of the YSU Department of Communication.

Ex-Ohio LB charged with domestic violence
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.
Former Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Blair Brown has been arrested on a domestic violence charge.
Brown turned himself in Wednesday, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, and was expected to remain in the Duval County Jail until his first appearance before a judge Thursday morning.
The Jaguars released Brown three weeks ago.
Details regarding his arrest were not immediately available.
The 25-year-old Brown played collegiately at Ohio University. He signed with Jacksonville as an undrafted free agent in 2017 and played in 28 games — mostly on special teams — the past two seasons. He totaled 17 tackles.
Atlanta awarded 2021 MLB All-Star Game
ATLANTA
Major League Baseball’s 2021 All-Star Game will be played at Atlanta in what could be the first national showcase for SunTrust Park since the stadium opened in 2017.
Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred made the announcement on Wednesday night.
