Day Camp for kids and teens set for June

CORNERSBURG

Stepping Stones to a Better Tomorrow will host its fifth annual day camp for kids and teens from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 20 and 21 at Zion Lutheran Church, 3300 Canfield Road, and from noon to 4 p.m. June 22, place to be announced. This is a grief support group sponsored by Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes and Zion Lutheran Church in Cornersburg. Registration is required by June 19 and can be done by calling Sister Pat Fesler, grief support specialist at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, at 330-792-2353 or Zion Lutheran Church at 330-792-4046.

Library hires new support specialist

The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County recently hired Shari Buchmann as its community support specialist.

Point 5K Fun Run set for July 13

CANFIELD

The Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley will host a Point 5K Fun Run/Walk at 10 a.m. July 13 at White House Fruit Farm, 9249 Youngstown-Salem Road. Cost is $5 for individuals, $15 for families or virtual and $50 for someone to walk in your place. Online registration should be done at www.rescuemissionmv.org.

There will be a doughnut stop at the half-way mark, a selfie station and car decals for participants. Parking is available at White House Farms, follow signs for where to park and begin the race/walk. Proceeds benefit the Rescue Mission annual fund.

Autism Society to host Camp F.R.I.E.N.D.

YOUNGSTOWN

The Autism Society of Mahoning Valley was recently awarded a $20,000 grant from the Hine Memorial fund of The Youngstown Foundation to support the fifth annual Camp F.R.I.E.N.D.: Finding Rewards In Every New Day. This is an inclusive day camp for children, teens, and young adult students with autism and their friends, and will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 15 through 19 and Aug. 12 through 16 each day at the YMCA of Youngstown, 17 N. Champion St.

Cost is $150 per student and financial scholarships are available. Registrations forms are available fro download at AutismMV.org/campfriend and can be mailed by request by sending an email to camp@autismmv.org. The Autism Society is in need of volunteers, interns and neurotypical peers to assist. Donations from individuals and business sponsorships are being accepted to help defer additional costs.
