Summer day camp set to begin June 5

The City of Youngstown Department of Parks & Recreation will sponsor its 2019 Summer Day Camp from June 5 through Aug. 7. All children age 5 through 17 are invited to attend. Registration must be done from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at the Eugenia Atkinson Recreational Center, 903 Otis St. The program includes prizes, T-shirts, track and field day, free swimming lessons, arts and crafts and more. There will be free field trips to a Cleveland Indians game, Tilt Studio, OH WOW! Children’s Center for Science & Technolgy and more. For information, call 330-742-8711.

Center will host workshop June 6

Great Conjunction Spiritual Growth Center will host a women’s empowerment workshop at 6 p.m. June 6 at Cornelius Studios, 1931 Belmont Ave. Mary Jane Brigger will present, “The Way of the Wise Woman,” a discussion of alternative ways women can address their professional, personal and spiritual needs. Library to host Wellness Wednesday

The Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will host its Wellness Wednesday program at 6:30 p.m. June 12 in the Quaker Room. Stephanie Hughes, master gardener through Mahoning County Extension Service and an Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist, will present “EEEEKS! Bed Bugs!” The program is free and open to the public. Chemistry award presented to student

PITTSBURGH

The Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh recently honored Dante DeChellis, a senior majoring in biochemistry at Youngstown State University, with the College Chemistry Award during a dinner at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.

DeChellis is the son of Lynn ad Pat DeChellis and a 2015 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School. He also is a member of the STEM Leadership Society and a supplemental instructor leader for YSU’s Center for Student Progress.

Nursing programs earn continued accreditation

CLARION, PA

Clarion University has earned continued accreditation of its ASN and BSN nursing programs through 2024. Accreditation means that the programs are regularly assessed and meet or exceed the standards set by an independent review board. Clarion University offers a nursing degree ladder approach, which allows students to begin or continue a nursing career from the associate degree level through the doctorate level.
