Cardinal Mooney High School hosted their annual fifth- and sixth-grade day on March 29.
Students from 10 different local schools spent the day at Mooney, working with students and teachers.
“It’s a lot of fun, the students really enjoy working with the high schoolers and it’s an awesome way to see what high school will be like,” said student Paige Pavlock.
Middle school students arrived at the school around 9 a.m. where they spent the day in four high school classes.
All students took English, art and science, and then selected one elective.
Student Jack Pepperney said that electives could be anything from psychology to computer classes to athletics.
“We have a lot to offer at Mooney and it’s really cool that students get the chance to see what they are interested in,” Pepperney said.
High school students were given the day off during the event, though many attended as volunteers.
According to Rebecca Bayley, Director of Admissions and Marketing with Mooney, more than 50 high school students from the Hospitality Team volunteered during the event.
High school students assisted middle schoolers in their classes, pairing with a group of students throughout the day.
“This event is really cool because when I did it when I was younger it really made me realize that I wanted to go to Mooney,” Pepperney said.
Bayley said that the event has been going on annually for more than 20 years.
“It’s a way to show middle school students what life is like in high school, it really helps them prepare for their future,” Bayley said.
Though Mooney is a private school students attended from local catholic, charter and public schools attended the event.
“We love having the middle school students here, we always have a lot of fun,” Pavlock said.
