YSU baseball players are All-Horizon League

Youngstown State baseball players Blaze Glenn, Jeff Wehler, Phillip Glasser and Dylan Swarmer earned All-Horizon League postseason recognition Tuesday.

Glenn and Wehler were voted to the second team, while Glasser and Swarmer were All-Freshman selections. Glenn and Wehler are second-team honorees for the second consecutive season.

Glenn ranks in the top 10 in the Horizon League with nine home runs, 42 RBIs, 38 walks and 18 stolen bases.

Wehler was a second-team selection in 2018 at shortstop, and his 2019 honor comes as a left fielder. The St. Marys, Pa., native ranks 16th in the country and second in the Horizon League with 30 stolen bases.

Glasser, a Tallmadge native ranks second in the Horizon League with seven sacrifice bunts, and his 125 assists rank fifth in the conference. Glasser has batted .268 with nine stolen bases, 30 runs scored, eight doubles and 20 RBIs.

Swarmer leads the Penguins and ranks fourth in the Horizon League with three triples, and, in the 26 games since the start of April, he is batting .247 with two home runs and 12 RBIs. The Saxonburg, Pa., native became the first YSU catcher in 15 years to hit two home runs in a game in a 5-4 win over Wright State on May 4.

Wright State and UIC, the top two seeds in this week’s Horizon League Baseball Championship, took home the five special awards. Wright State outfielder Peyton Burdick was voted the Horizon League Player of the Year, WSU infielder Tyler Black was named the Freshman of the Year and manager Alex Sogard is the Coach of the Year. UIC’s Jacob Key was voted the Horizon League Pitcher of the Year, and Flames closer Alex Padilla is the Relief Pitcher of the Year.

YSU will meet Milwaukee at 4 p.m. today in the first round of the Horizon League tournament.

Scrappers announce Peppers in Oil night

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers unveiled their third and final specialty jersey for he 2019. On Saturday, July 13 the team will change its name to the Mahoning Valley Peppers in Oil presented by the Italian Food Trail (Trumbull County Tourism). The iconic area appetizer will be featured on the game worn jerseys, game worn hats and retail hats and shirts.

The Peppers in Oil jerseys will be auctioned off at the July 13 Scrappers game in a silent auction and through the app, LiveSource. Proceeds from the auction will benefit United Way of Trumbull County.

The Scrappers invite members of the Italian Food Trail developed by Trumbull County Tourism and other local restaurants to claim reign as “Best Peppers in Oil in the Valley” voted upon by Scrappers fans. Fans can purchase a tasting package for $20 and includes a game ticket, 10 tastings and a souvenir cup with a free refill. Restaurants and businesses can purchase a sampling table for $50 which includes a table to provide samples, option to sell their Peppers in Oil (with proper retail licensing), ten game tickets, and ability to provide promotional materials to fans.

Reports: Cleveland to host 2021 NFL draft

KEY BISCAYNE, FLA.

Several published reports, including one from Uproxx.com, indicated Cleveland has been selected to host the 2021 NFL draft.

An official announcement on future draft sites is expected today during NFL owners meetings in Florida.
